“ONE Great Community Salutes georgia wynn

“ONE Great Community Salutes” is a new Chamber program designed to recognize people who do positive things to improve the quality of life in our community.

This month’s recipient of the Chamber of Commerce ONE Great Community Salute is Georgia Wynn. Georgia is a retired Richmond High School English teacher, a position she held for 16 years. She has also been teaching for Ivy Tech Community College in her retirement.

Those who know her describe Georgia as a quiet prophet. They say she is a loyal friend and a selfless community activist. She also has a reputation for spreading goodwill in her quiet way and pulling people together from different sides of a topic.

Georgia especially enjoys acting as an advocate for people by connecting them to resources they need, or driving them around to conduct their daily business when transportation is an issue.  She’s quick to point out that there are many other people in our community who serve those in need.

Georgia is part of Community Builders, an organization that is facilitating study circles on poverty at Morrisson-Reeves Library in October and November.  This group will also be involved with the Ripple Effect themed around To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Georgia is currently serving on the Human Rights Commission for the City of Richmond and the Townsend Center Board. She also supports the Mothers’ Bank.

It’s Georgia Wynn’s quiet support of our ONE Great Community and its people that make her an ideal candidate for this award.

The Chamber plans to select an award recipient monthly and will be honoring the recipients in different ways throughout the month. The Chamber encourages nominations from the community.

Nomination forms are available at the Chamber Office, local radio stations, the Palladium Item and on line at www.rwchamber.org.
