“ONE Great Community Salutes” is a Richmond-Wayne County Chamber of Commerce program designed to recognize people who do positive things to improve the quality of life in our community.
This month the Chamber ONE Great Community Salute goes to Sara James. Sara is recently retired from the Reid Hospital as a pediatric physical therapist and has dedicated her life to children and young adults with disabilities.
It’s not hard to see the impact that Sara has had on Wayne County. All you have to do is page through the more than 20 nominations that were submitted to the Chamber of Commerce. Colleagues and current and former coworkers couldn’t say enough about Sara’s influence on their careers and the children she has helped in the course of her 36-years in physical therapy. James started her career in physical therapy at, what was known then, as Green Acres and was the only pediatric physical therapist when she began her tenure at Reid Hospital. She is credited with playing a major role in making Reid’s Pediatric Rehab Program one of the finest in the state of Indiana.
Almost all of the nominations specifically pointed out what a great mentor and role model Sara has been to them. In multiple ways they said, “Sara makes everyone she comes in contact with feel special and her enthusiasm for her patients is unmatched.”
James has been involved with the community in a host of other ways over the years. She has served on the board of Easter Seals and Sunrise, Inc., is a faithful blood donor, very active in her church and was instrumental in the development of the accessible “Super Park” at Middlefork Reservoir.
No one expects Sara to disappear into retirement, but it’s obvious she’ll be missed by the children and colleagues she has impacted so profoundly over the years.
For her dedication to children and families in need and her exceptional spirit in her work, Sara James is being honored with this month’s ONE Great Community Salute.
The Chamber plans to select an award recipient monthly and will be honoring the recipients in different ways throughout the month. The Chamber is asking for nominations from the community.
